235 Retired Military Leaders Pen Letter Supporting President Trump For Re-Election

(ConservativePeak.com)- President Donald Trump received a big endorsement on Monday.

Retired military leaders came together to endorse Trump for re-election. They said he’s committed to a “strong America,” and criticized Democrat Joe Biden’s record as vice president for Barack Obama.

The 235 retired military leaders penned an open letter Monday that read:

“At present, our country is now confronted with enemies here and abroad, as well as a once in a century pandemic. As retired military officers, we believe that Donald J. Trump has been tested as few other presidents have and is the proven leader to confront these dangers.”

Part of the criticism of Biden was that he had proposed cuts to the budget of the military. He and the Democratic Party have also supported the nuclear deal with Iran.

The retired military leaders also said Biden and his Washington, D.C., allies are antagonistic toward law enforcement, and are opposed to securing the country’s borders.

The letter continued:

“It can be argued that this is the most important election since our country was founded. With the Democratic Party welcoming to socialists and Marxists, our historic way of life is at stake.”

This endorsement was very well-timed for Trump, who has been receiving some backlash among the military community lately. A report in The Atlantic magazine cited unnamed sources who said Trump referred to Marines who died in World War I as “suckers” and “losers.” The magazine’s article also included anecdotes of insensitive remarks the president apparently made about people who serve in the military.

For his part, Trump has vehemently denied what’s in that article. He called the statements a “total lie” and a “continuation of the witch hunt” against him.

What the retired military leaders’ letter does is sort of quell that talk that Trump doesn’t support the armed forces and those who choose to serve.

Their letter said Trump is “committed to a strong America.” As president, they believe “he will continue to secure our borders, defeat our adversaries, and restore law and order domestically.”

Before the 2016 election, Trump also received widespread support from former military leaders. A letter signed in September 2016 by 88 other retired military leaders supported Trump for re-election. That group included 13 three-star flag officers and four four-star generals.

That letter read:

“As retired senior leaders of America’s military, we believe that such a change can only be made by someone who has not been deeply involved with, and substantially responsible for, the hollowing out of our military and the burgeoning threats facing our country around the world. For this reason, we support Donald Trump’s candidacy to be our next Commander-in-Chief.

“We support Donald Trump and his commitment to rebuild our military, secure our borders, to defeat Islamic supremacist adversaries, and restore law and order domestically. We urge our fellow Americans to do the same.”

It seems that in his four years as president, Trump has done enough to increase his support among former American military leaders.
