AOC: $1 BILLION NYPD Defunding Isn’t Enough

( Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t exactly known for her moderation in politics, so perhaps it won’t be surprising to some readers to learn that the far-left congresswoman wants the New York Police Department to slash its budget by more than $1 billion. The radical socialist congresswoman said on Tuesday that the agreement to take $1 billion from the New York City police budget wasn’t enough, that it was “not a victory,” and that they must continue to fight to defund the police.

I wonder how people living in her district feel about that?

Incredible, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio agreed with the City Council to take away a massive $1 billion from the city’s police budget. It would involve moving school safety services over to the city Department of Education and would see 600 non-uniformed officers out of work.

Those were the guys who were working to stop violent attacks and shootings in the city, by the way. Most people would probably agree that losing those officers is certainly not a victory…but AOC wants even more protection gone.

In a statement AOC released about the cuts, AOC stated that “Defunding police means defunding police,” a strikingly different take on the slogan than many more “moderate” Democrats who argue it actually means redirecting police funds to social services.

“It does not mean budget tricks or funny math,” AOC said. “It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so that the exact same police remain in schools. It does not mean counting overtime cuts as cuts, even as NYPD ignores every attempt by City Council to curb overtime spending and overspends on overtime anyways.”

It’s very clear. AOC wants to defund the police.

On Monday, de Blasio confirmed plans to cut police funding, and incredibly, he told the press he was “excited to say that we have a plan that can achieve real reform.”

Let’s hope New Yorkers stay safe in the coming months and years.
