China Calls For Biden To Lift Travel Ban

( President Joe Biden is under pressure from China to lift the travel ban on the country now once they “mutually recognize” the vaccines used in their respective countries. A top medical official from China has called on the Biden administration to allow travel from China once the United States reached herd immunity.

A report from the state-run Chinese propaganda outlet, the Global Times, said that the chief epidemiologist of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and prevention Wu Zunyou has proposed that China and the United States plan to jointly lift travel restrictions in August or September.

Speaking to the Global Times on Tuesday, Wu said that the plan should move forward in three stages, the first of which requiring the United States officially recognize the vaccines used in China. These include the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese scientists which is reported to be only 50.6% effective.

In February, an Indonesian nurse aged only 33 died after receiving the vaccine. This week, Hong Kong health authorities also confirmed the death of a 63-year-old man who took the Chinese vaccine.

Before leaving the White House, President Donald Trump lifted the European travel ban he initially put in place at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, following break-through vaccine developments. Newly-inaugurated President Joe Biden immediately reinstated the travel bans upon arriving in the White house.

The second step would involve allowing business people and government officials to travel, along with overseas students. In the third step, all people would be allowed to travel freely between China and the United States.

The Global Times, in true Chinese propaganda style, claimed that China is the “safest country in the world in terms of COVID-19 prevention” and said that there is “no community transmission” occurring in the country.

Wu said that the United States should be able to vaccinate 80 percent of the population by June and 90 percent before August.

“If that is the case and if we could remove all political barriers, just based on science, the two countries could possibly be the first two countries to lift travel restrictions with each other,” Wu said.

While China expects the United States to officially recognize its vaccines, which are substantially less effective and safe than Western vaccines, the country has reportedly secured more than 100 million doses of the American Pfizer vaccine.
