China JAILED This Journalist for FIFTEEN YEARS For Criticizing Government

(ConservativePeak.Com)- Here’s a story that will remind you why living in a free country is so great.

The Chinese Communist Party reportedly jailed a journalist, who worked at a Chinese state media outlet, for fifteen years for allegedly vilifying the governing communist party. The anti-corruption journalist, Chen Jieren, was convicted last Thursday for saying negative things about the Chinese government.

According to the South China Morning Post, he was convicted of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble, extortion, illegal business operations and bribery.” The charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” is a charge commonly used by authorities in China against those who criticize the government.

It took two years for the authorities to sentence Chen to 15 years in prison, after he published two articles on his website that accused the Chinese government of corruption.

Communist China, which is currently facing criticism from global governments for its poor handling of the coronavirus outbreak, imprisons more journalists than any country in the world. Reporters Without Borders says that the government controls its national press and censors foreign news through its “Great Firewall,” which stops most Chinese people accessing the same Internet as the rest of the world.

Radio Free Asia, a Chinese news website that is based in the United States, reported that Chen was forced to backtrack on his reporting and say that he was wrong to do what he did.

“I abused my own influence and the trust of my social media followers,” he was forced to say. “I used wording that evoked fairness and justice to cheat my readers; to deceive the people. I am a classic example of a fake guy on the internet.”

Remember, this is the country that the Democrats have long defended, and who have tried to protect throughout the entire coronavirus pandemic.

Radio Free Asia also reported that Chen, and every single member of his family, have all been denied access to a lawyer. So not only was he arrested and charged, he wasn’t allowed to fight fairly in the courts. That’s communism for you, folks.

The news comes as the United States begins a formal investigation into the origins of the coronavirus. The results may end up proving journalists like Chen right.
