(ConservativePeak.com) – The Democratic National Committee couldn’t hold its collective tongue any longer after Senator Bernie Sanders bizarrely defended the record of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. A spokeswoman for the DNC distanced the party from the comments made by the independent senator, who is currently the front runner in the race to become Democratic nominee.
Speaking to Bill Hemmer on Fox News, Xochitl Hinojosa said, “I’ll let Bernie Sanders speak for his comments…We are very clear in the Democratic party that we speak out against brutal dictatorships like Castro.”
But hey, Xochitl, didn’t you hear that Castro implemented a literacy program?
Sanders defended Fidel Castro’s record during a 60 Minutes interview by explaining how the socialist dictator implemented a literacy program during his rise to power. However, the claim has been quickly shot down by Democrats and Republicans alike who note that there was much more to it. An immigrant who was forced to take part in the literacy program spoke out against Sanders on Tuesday, explaining how schools indoctrinated students to support his party, or “face unthinkable consequences.”
Fabiola Santiago, who escaped from Cuba in 1969, summed the issue up very well. Addressing Senator Sanders, she wrote:
“The ‘free education’ in Cuba isn’t free, and the Castro literacy program the American left has bought into is rooted in indoctrination and devotion to the one-party political system. Your apparatchik views on Cuba, senator, are as old and dated as the photos of me and my mother.”
Incredibly, CNN seemed to support Bernie Sanders, writing a glowing review of the literacy program that gave the Cuban people the chance to learn to read. They failed to mention, of course, that it was a re-education program that forced people to change the way they think, and punished them brutally if they didn’t. CNN also failed to mention the widespread poverty, brutality, and murder that took place under Castro’s rule.
During the 60 Minutes interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Sanders explained:
“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba, but, you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad. You know? When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?”
Well, Bernie – Hitler was a vegetarian who loved his mom! Will you defend him too?
