(ConservativePeak.com)- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director and one of the most prominent members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, was for some time considered the darling of the COVID-19 outbreak response. Fauci offered sensible advice on how to deal with the virus and even rebutted the media when they tried to fabricate fights between him and President Donald Trump.
However, his most recent comments could burn bridges between him and much of the American public. On Thursday, he made the astonishing claim that the United States has an “anti-science problem.”
Speaking to the Learning Curve podcast, a show produced by the Department of Health and Human Services, Fauci claimed that much of the American public don’t believe science or the authorities.
“One of the problems we face I the United States is that unfortunately, there is a combination of an anti-science bias that people are, for reasons that sometimes are, you know, inconceivable and not understandable, they just don’t believe science and they don’t believe authority,” he said.
Fauci said that many people see someone in the White House, with authority, talking about science and immediately don’t believe them. He said that it’s “unfortunate” because “science is truth.”
“It’s amazing sometimes the denial there is, it’s the same thing that gets people who are anti-vaxxers, who don’t want people to get vaccinated, even though the data clearly indicate that safety of vaccines,” he added. “That’s really a problem.”
Interestingly, Fauci’s comments came after he admitted that the authorities – the federal government – specifically held back from promoting face coverings in order to avoid a shortage of masks. The idea was that if Americans realized masks helped reduce the spread of the virus and, in turn, reduced their chances of contracting the disease, then health officials wouldn’t have access to the masks they need.
Isn’t that a reason not to trust authorities? Perhaps Fauci should have given the people of the United States a reason to trust the authorities and leveled with them that health workers needed masks first, and that everybody else could make their own masks from fabric at home.
