Possible Terror Attack As Two Stabbed Near Former Charlie Hebdo Office

(ConservativePeak.com)- A possible terror attack took place on Friday when two people were stabbed and seriously wounded near the former offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine. The attack is significant, as the satirical magazine’s offices were the focus of an Islamic terror attack in 2015.

Two suspects were arrested following the attack, with one suspect being found in the Bastille area of Paris with bloodstains on his clothes. The investigation is ongoing but has been taken over by anti-terrorism police, suggesting it could be motivated by the same ideology as the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack.

Metro stations and five schools in the region were shut down immediately following the attack, with schools opening hours later. It indicates that the situation was quickly under control and no more suspects were understood to be on the loose.

Officers recovered a blade, which was described as a meat cleaver or a machete, was discovered at the scene of the attack.

French Prime Minister Jean Castez said that the two victims are expected to survive the attack.

The two victims were staff from production company Premieres Lignes. A colleague told AFP News agency that they were outside smoking when the attack happened.

“Two colleagues were smoking a cigarette outside the building, in the street. I heard shouting. I went to the window and saw one of my colleagues covered in blood being chased by a man with a machete in the street,” the colleague explained.

Prime Minister Castex visited the scene with Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, along with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. He reiterated his commitment to “combat terrorism by all possible means,” suggesting that France’s leaders already believe the attack is ideologically motivated.

Charlie Hebdo, which is still published regularly but is now operated from a secret location, tweeted in support of the victims, saying they stand in “support and solidarity with its former neighbors…and the people affected by this odious attack.”
