(ConservativePeak.Com)- President Donald Trump has so far been reluctant to force companies to shift their manufacturing efforts towards medical personal protective equipment and machines like ventilators. Even without being forced to do so, incredible American companies like “My Pillow” have stepped up and started producing hundreds of thousands of masks.
Now, it’s the turn of the auto industry.
On Monday, President Trump announced that General Electric and Ford will be expected to produce 50,000 ventilators over the next 100 days to help with the treatment of infected Americans and people all over the world.
During a White House Rose Garden press conference, the president explained that the United States already has nine companies on board with the plants. He also explained how, as the United States produces more ventilators than the country needs, this equipment will be shipped off all over the world to help other medical systems treat victims of the Chinese coronavirus.
“As we outpace what we need, we’re going to be sending them to Italy, we’re going to be sending them to France, we’re going to be sending them to Spain where they have tremendous problems,” Trump said.
“The fact that we’re doing so many so quickly is a tribute to our great companies,” he added.
In a tweet on Monday, General Electric said they were “proud to partner with Ford to scale the production of ventilators using @AironCor’s unique, air-pressure-based design.”
Today, we announced our second collaboration with @Ford in the fight against #COVID19. We’re proud to partner with Ford to scale the production of ventilators using @AironCorp‘s unique, air-pressure-based design.

In the president’s opening comments during the press conference, he noted that a combination of having enough ventilators and implementing social distancing measures to combat the spread of the disease could save more than a million lives.
During the same press conference, he also announced that a new coronavirus test, developed by Abbott Labs, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and will soon be giving people test results in just five minutes.
